Walking Safaris & Day Trips

Walking safaris and birding day trips

With our international clients not able to travel for more than a year, we have expanded our offerings aimed specifically at South African residents. These include walking safaris - 'Birding and Wildlife on Foot' experiences - in Balule Nature Reserve, which is part of the Greater Kruger National Park; and dedicated birding, photography or general wildlife day trips in the Southern Kruger National Park.

Birding & Wildlife on Foot Experiences

Being on foot in the bush on a walking safari, in the hands of a competent trails guide, is a magical experience. While the traditional vehicle-based safari is a great way to see big game and get close to exciting species such as Lion and Leopard, a walking safari is a far more immersive experience. On foot you are IN the bush, you are PART of it. You are alert, aware of everything that's happening around you - the alarm call of Grey Go-away Birds alerts you to a pair of African Hawk Eagles overhead; fresh tracks on the ground read like a story, telling you about what happened in the dead of the night; the snap of a twig indicates Elephants feeding nearby... it's just you and nature. And we're coming up to prime walking season, when day time temperatures are lower and the fresh early mornings really invigorate the soul. The daily program on this walking safari experience includes a morning walk, followed by a late, leisurely breakfast, the traditional safari siesta and, for the afternoon, a game drive or even drive / walk combination, depending on the wishes of the tour participants, followed by a wonderful al fresco evening dining experience.

Birding Day Trips in Kruger & Lowveld

If you are visiting our beautiful part of the world and want to go out with a professional birding guide, then our local day trips are just the ticket. The Southern Kruger is an obvious choice, and we can offer trips from Crocodile Bridge, Malelane, Numbi and Kruger gates. These are done in an open-sided safari vehicle, offering optimal viewing and an exciting safari experience. We can do pick-ups at hotels and resorts close to the gates, or meet at one of the above-mentioned gates.

Prices for the day trips are R 575 per person, with a base rate of 4 people (R 2 300 minimum cost). This excludes the Daily Conservation Fee and meals, but includes bottled water and tea / coffee / famous Lawson's rusks.
