Maun to Chobe in 12 idyllic days...

April 2027: Botswana: Maun to Chobe Mobile Safari

See Botswana from the ground on this 12-day mobile tented safari, starting in Maun and ending in Kasane.

For safari enthusiasts Botswana, the land of the delta in the desert, needs no introduction. With more land set aside for wildlife, as a proportion of the total area of the country, than any other in Africa, Botswana is a wildlife enthusiast's Mecca. From the gin-clear waterways of the Okavango Delta - the largest inland delta in the world - to the mature woodlands and golden grasslands of Savute and the game-rich banks of the Chobe River, this Botswana mobile safari will thrill those who love birds, wildlife and wild, open spaces far from crowds of other tourists.

Your temporary home on this safari comes in the form of fully-serviced 'Mobile camps', set up by company staff in remote, uncrowded sites, making for an authentic wildlife experience. And fear not, you don't have to lift a finger: there's no setting up of tents etc, that's all handled by the camp staff. Your days are spent out in the Land-Cruiser game viewer, enjoying abundant birds and wildlife, coffee stops and picnic lunches out in the bush under a shady trees. Return to camp to sip on a cold beer or glass of wine around the fire while discussing the excitement of the day past. Feast on wholesome food prepared on the coals by the camp chef, and live the safari life for twelve idyllic days...

Areas visited:

Maun, Moremi, Khwai River, Savute, Kasane / Chobe.

Mammal viewing:

Excellent, full range of species can be seen, including Elephant, African Buffalo, Lion and Leopard, as well as Cheetah, Wild Dog and Spotted Hyena. Good general game as well, and chances for interesting nocturnal species around the camp after dark. Outstanding photographic opportunities.

Birding:

Botswana is renowned for very good general birding, even if it is limited in terms of endemics. The typically excellent Southern African savanna birding makes up for a lack of endemics though, and on this safari we'll have the chance to see and photograph a wide range of colourful and charismatic species.

Is this safari right for you?

This is not a luxury safari, though it's by no means uncomfortable. The first and last nights are spend in lodges, but the bulk of the accommodation comprises safari tents that are moved by the camp crew every few days. Toilets are 'long-drop' composting toilets, and showers are bucket-style (all WC facilities are private and en-suite). Food is prepared in-camp by the camp chef and kitchen team - you'll be surprised by the quality of food produced in a mobile kitchen! If you want fancy lodge accommodation and all the trimmings, a pool to relax at during the day etc, this safari is not for you. But, if you want an awesome and totally authentic wildlife experience away from big crowds of other tourists, this safari is just the ticket.
